Seattle Naturalists’ Event Roundup: September 7th to 13th
Hey Naturalists, this time of year makes me feel giddy— the weather is cooling, peak mushroom season is beginning, and salmon and bird migration!! 🍄🟫✨🦆
& Swift Night Out with Pilchuck Audubon Society is one of my September can’t miss events. It’s literally hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of birds swirling into a tornado like shape and flying into a chimney. I’ve brought a few friends and it’s (i) electrifying, (ii) terrifying, or (iii) terrifyingly electric. Bring a picnic blanket and snack but note: there is a chance of poo. Though, maybe you can count yourself lucky- it’s only happened to me once.
Also looking forward to a mushroom seminar with the Puget Sound Mycological Society on finding edible (and also not so edible) mushrooms with a local mycologist and many community birding events to welcome our fall and winter birb residents back to town.
As always, check event pages for updates, registration requirements, and weather-related changes before heading out. Be mindful stewards of the places we visit. Leave no trace, respect wildlife, and help care for the lands and waters that make our region so special.
